Beneficiary designation in a s/p life insurance policy trumps a will and proceeds are not part of probate estate.

Under PC §11704(b)(1) "good cause" is the sole showing necessary for an executor to participate on one side of a probate litigation against an alleged omitted spouse; an additional showing of "necessity" is not required.
